Are you planning on buying a Butterball Turkey for Christmas?   You might think again.

Do you think you should have the right to know if meat you are eating has been prepared as Halal Meat?   That is meat that is slaughtered while the face of the animal is facing Mecca and the words, Allahu Akbar (Allah is Greater) pronounced over it.

All the turkey’s in Butterball plants are being slaughtered in a manner that would would make them Halal Certified.

I have heard it said that Costco is the largest supplier of Halal Meat in the United States.

I don’t begrudge Muslims eating food they way their religion dictates. The restrictions are similar to that of Kosher Meat for Jews.

I do however have two concerns:

1. The Pronouncement over the animal as its jugular is slit. A Muslim proclaims “Allah Akbar”. Saying god (Allah) is greatest!

This ceremony is very much like Idolatry. The moon god, Allah was an idol of worship before Mohammad lived. It was worshiped with animal sacrifice like many other idols of its time. This practice is continued to day.

2. The lack of compassion on the animal as its life is taken is another problem I have with Halal meat. All other animals are to be put out of their consciousnesses by shock before they are cut. However, the practice of Sharia requires that the animal to be fully conscious while it is being killed. I prefer that animals are treated better.
