Are you planning on buying a Butterball Turkey for Christmas?   You might think again.

Do you think you should have the right to know if meat you are eating has been prepared as Halal Meat?   That is meat that is slaughtered while the face of the animal is facing Mecca and the words, Allahu Akbar (Allah is Greater) pronounced over it.

All the turkey’s in Butterball plants are being slaughtered in a manner that would would make them Halal Certified.

In Islam, Halal simply means ‘Permissible.’   It is similar to Kosher meat which meets the Jewish Laws.  Halal Meat is prepared in manners that are consistent with Islamic Laws. (Sharia)

I heard this story, just before Thanksgiving, but it was too late for me to deal with it as I needed to confirm from Butterball if the claims were true or not.  I did not want to broadcast a story that I unsure about.

I called Butterball and told them that I was looking for a statement on the issue.  They referred me to their Media Spokesperson, Bridgette O’Malley.    I called 3 times, over three days and left messages.  She did not reply.

I called Butterball a couple more times asking to be put to someone else but each time I was referred back to O’Malley.   I suspect that with the volume of traffic around Thanksgiving…. Butterball is ‘stuffed’ to the max.

 The Blaze—  however was successful in getting a response from Butterball.

“The Blaze contacted Butterball to find out if its turkeys are indeed compliant with Halal standards, but the answer was murky at best. Butterball claims that the manner in which the company slaughters its turkeys “allow for Halal certification.” The company, however, qualified that it does not go the extra step in reciting ritual prayers over the meat once slaughtered – that process, according to Butterball, is reserved for Islamic second-party distributors who purchase the company’s turkeys.”

Perhaps you may want to tell Butterball that you would like them to separate the turkeys in their plants that are prepared for Halal from the ones that are prepared for Non-Muslims.  Here are their contact details:

This is the largest producers of turkey’s in the US.  If there is no fuss from us about them bluring the lines between Halal turkey’s and Non-Halal turkey’s…. this practice will only grow.

This is a slippery slope.  The more accomadate the more they will demand.  This is their strategy to slowly erode our culture and values.  This is the Cultural Jihad.
