Christian Apologetics toward Islam and Missions to Muslims

How To Win The Argument Against Islam – Part VII

Listen to today’s broadcast:

Danish CartoonsToday I want to get back into how to win The argument against Islam with our family, friends, colleagues, and even with liberal Muslims who try to tell us that Islam is a peaceful religion.

We are using the most authoritative sources in our arguments. We are using approved Islamic books like the Qur’an and Reliance of the Traveller. Most of what we are quoting are the words of Muhammad, himself. We can’t get a better authority than that. If those we talk to won’t accept what these books and Muhammad what say then they are willingly ignorant and there isn’t much more we can do.

Let me tell you where I am coming from on this issue. I am a Christian preacher, a former missionary, and I have my preconceived notions when I look at Islam. As you would expect, I have a bias toward my biblical teaching. When I look at Islam, I will be looking at it through that filter. I try to put my bias aside as much as I can and to look at the evidence, their scriptures, their own words, and to keep everything in context.

What got me started in the study of Islam was 9/11. I did not want to hear what others said about Islam, I wanted to learn what Islam really said, what their scriptures really said, what Muhammad said, etc. I wanted to hear it from the camel’s mouth, so to say. I wanted to know if Islam was a peaceful religion that a few radicals were giving a bad name, or was it truly an evil religion of violence and terror?

My studies of the original sources have led me to the conclusion that the jihadists are the true followers of Islam. They are following the true teachings of Muhammad.

My hope is that if we share the truth with those who are reasonable people they will want to reject Islam. They will see how destructive it is to our civilization.

Today I would like to talk about Islam’s attitude toward apostasy. You will find what Islamic law says about this on page 595 of the Reliance of the Traveller. Its reference number is o8.1. Here is what it says:

“When a person who has reached puberty and is sane voluntarily apostatizes from Islam, he deserves to be killed.”

Apostasy is when you leave the faith. When a Christian leaves his faith he becomes an apostate. When a Muslim leaves Islam he becomes an apostate.

There have been some who have been forced, under the penalty of death, to recant their faith in Islam. This penalty does not apply to them because it was not voluntary.

The next point is o8.2 and it says “In such a case, it is obligatory for the caliph (A: or his representative) to ask him to repent and return to Islam. If he does, it is accepted from him, but if he refuses, he is immediately killed. “

Before the death penalty is carried out a representative of Islam is to give one a chance to come back to Islam. If he does he is accepted. If he does not he is killed immediately.

If you follow the news in Iran you will see that those who have converted to Christianity are imprisoned and given the death sentence. While in prison they try to get them to recant and return to Islam.

If a Muslim tells you that they do not have a caliph today and therefore these laws do not apply he is lying to you. The caliph is like to Pope in Catholicism and it is true that there are certain duties that apply only to him, but if you go to section o25.7 it talks about delegated ministers. The whole government of Islam can operate under delegated ministers and many Islamic authorities quote this law to prove they can carry out these laws.

Lets look at o8.4. It says “There is no indemnity for killing an apostate (O: or any expiation, since it is killing someone who deserves to die).”

If you kill an apostate there is no indemnity (damage) to you because you have killed someone who deserves to die.

Have you heard of “honor killings?” When the father of the home has a daughter or a wife who is not living the life of Islam, that person has apostatized. They have given themselves to worldly, non-Islamic ways. It is the duty of the father to keep his family in line with Islam, and when someone apostatizes, it is his duty to carry of the penalty for apostasy, which is death, upon the family member. If the father doesn’t carry out his duty, and someone else does it for him, there is more shame upon the family.

You see, Islam is not a religion of peace, it is a religion of fear. Muslims, themselves call Islam the religion of the sword.

Let me close with this one quote from one of Islam’s greatest living clerics Shaykh Al Qaradawi. He was complaining because the penalty for apostasy was not being carried out today. He said:

“If they had gotten rid of the apostasy punishment, Islam wouldn’t exist today;

Islam would have ended since the death of the Prophet, PBUH. So, opposing apostasy is what kept Islam to this day.”

Qaradawi is the Billy Graham or the John MacArthur of Islam. He is one of the most popular of all the clerics.

What he is doing is making one of the greatest admissions that I have ever heard that the reason people stay with Islam is out of fear. If you ever leave Islam you deserve to die and they will do all they can to see that you do.

Nice religion, isn’t it? Do you call this the religion of peace? Is this the ideology that we want in America and Canada? Is this the Islam that is being presented to us by the liberal apologists? No it is not! But it is the real Islam!
