Listen to today’s broadcast:
It reminds me of an interesting story that I like telling. I like to tell the story because it makes an important point about where we are going in life. Before I tell the story I need for you to look at an important passage of Scripture.
Matthew 7:13-15 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
Notice the spelling of the word “strait.” It is not spelled “straight” like a strait line. It means a narrow passage like the Straits of Gibraltar. He is talking about entering in at the narrow gate.
In verse 15 He warns us about false prophets coming in sheep’s clothing. Life is full of deception, especially when it comes to spiritual things. Satan is the great deceiver. In Matthew 24:11 Jesus tells us that these false prophets will deceive many.
In our text we have three opposites.
1. Two different gates – Narrow Gate / Wide Gate
2. Two different destinations – Life / Destruction (Heaven / Hell)
3. Two different quantities – Few / Many
The opposite that concerns me the most is the few vs. many. Only a few will find the narrow gate that leads to life and many will find the wide gate that leads to destruction.
Do you think there are signs over these gates? Do you think the wide gate has a sign that says, “This gate leads to destruction”? If it did, who in their right mind would enter in through that gate?
Who do you think operates the gate that leads to destruction? It is the Devil, the great deceiver. He is not going to tell the truth! He will make the gate look as appealing as possible. He will say that it leads to life.
I brought up this passage because a number of years ago I was traveling from Tennessee back to Seattle. I had a connecting flight in Denver. An ice storm delayed my flight out of Memphis so I didn’t get to Denver the next day. According to my original flight schedule, I was supposed to have a four or five hour layover in Denver. I enjoy airports so I didn’t mind the wait. I don’t enjoy flying any more with all the security measures (thank you Islam), but I still enjoy airports.
I got to Denver about lunch time so I was enjoying my lunch and watching the show. You get to see some strange things at airports. Since flight gates can change I thought I should check my flight. The gate was right but the time of departure had changed. The flight was leaving in 10 minutes. I had assumed that the flight times would be the same as the day before.
I told you that airports are interesting places, have you ever seen a fat boy run? I didn’t know it, but I was providing the entertainment that day. I had never before missed a flight.
Wouldn’t you know it, Murphy’s law, when you’re late and have to rush to your gate, it is going to be the furthest one away. I was in the wrong concourse, so I went down to the trains and caught the train to the right concourse. When I got there it was already 10 to 15 minutes after the flight was supposed to leave. I was hearing the announcements, Mr. Wallace come to the gate, this is your last call. I was running to get to the gate and they were closing the door. I was yelling, I’m coming, I’m coming. I gave the lady my boarding pass and went down the gangway to the plane. Everyone was looking at me because I had held the plane up. And wouldn’t you know it, I got that middle seat. I hate the middle seat. I squeeze myself in there and was thinking, praise the Lord, I didn’t miss my flight.
I suppose the only thing worse, the only thing more stupid than goofing off at the airport and missing your flight is getting on the wrong plane. Then the thought hit me, I don’t know where this plane is going. I didn’t see a sign at the gate, I gave the lady my boarding pass and surely she wouldn’t let me on the wrong plane. I surely wasn’t going to ask anyone if this flight was going to Seattle. I was already feeling really stupid as it was. I didn’t know where this plane was going, it might be going back to Memphis, New York, or anywhere else. I had no idea where this flight was going!
Being on a plane and not knowing where you are going is a terrible feeling. Of course I knew that when I got to the other end I could always correct it. I could buy another ticket to Seattle. I didn’t want to spend the money, but the mistake could be corrected.
Then the thought hit me, what about those people who think they have entered the gate that leads them to Heaven and, when they get to the other end, find out that it doesn’t lead there? How terrible that may be!
It’s one thing for a person to live their life in anger and in an attitude toward God which says I reject you God. I’m going to live my life and you can go jump in the lake. I’m just going to take my chances. I’m going to live my life to the fullest, and if I’m wrong, then I’m wrong. It is one thing for that type of person to slip off into eternity and find himself in Hell and realize, I goofed up, I made a bad choice here. People tried to tell me the truth. I had Christian friends and family members and they tried to share with me the truth, but I rejected it. I am going to suffer for all eternity here in Hell because I, in my own pride and my own desire, wanted to hold to my own sins.
It is one thing for a person to find himself in Hell that way. But is totally another thing for a person who thinks he is following the path of religion, to think that he is living the life that God has appointed for him to live, and for him to die and wake up in eternity and find himself in hell. Now that, my friends, is something terrible.
Verse 15 of our text says “beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.” You see, my friends Islam is deceiving masses of people. 1.6 billion are following the Qur’an and think that it is going to lead them to life eternal. The Qur’an tells people that Jesus is no more than just a prophet. It says He is just a man, and certainly not God. It makes that very clear.
Furthermore Muslims are taught that Jesus did not die on the cross. The Qur’an says the Allah could see that Jesus was in trouble before he was to be crucified so he rescued him and took him into heaven. He took the image off of Jesus and put it on another person (they suppose that to be Judas) and that person went to the cross to fool everybody into thinking that Jesus died on the cross. But he didn’t. This is what the Qur’an tells Muslims.
Certainly, if you don’t have the death of Jesus on the cross, you don’t have the resurrection. If you don’t have Jesus as God, and if you don’t have Him dieing on the cross and shedding His blood as an atonement for the remission of man’s sin and if you don’t have the resurrection, then you don’t have the Gospel.
Some of these people who are following the Qur’an are devout and sincere and they believe the lie to be true. When the enter into eternity it will not be with God’s blessing, it will be, instead, with God’s wrath. It will not be because they are jihadist and see us as the kufar, but because they rejected Jesus Christ as God and Saviour. It will be because their religion has deceived them. Oh how sad this is. It breaks my heart that these people have been deceived.
1.6 million of them are going through the Wide gate leading to Hell. Folks, That is a lot of people, and that is only talking about those who are alive today. What about the billions who have been deceived over the last 1,400 years.
Think about this. If you were born into a Muslim family, and raised in this false religion, and you were being deceived, if that was happening to you, wouldn’t you want someone to care? Wouldn’t you want someone to be concerned enough for your soul to tell you the truth? I know I would.
Folks, I hope you will see Muslims with eyes of compassion. Jesus died on the cross and shed His blood for the remission of sins for all the people of the world, even Muslims.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
There is atonement waiting in the blood of Jesus Christ if they will receive it.
