Listen to today’s broadcast:
Remember Jihad Jane, an American woman named Coleen LaRose from Michigan? After converting to Islam she plotted to murder the Swedish artist Lars Vilks, the man who drew some images depicting Muhammad as a dog. Those images were insulting to Islam. He was trying to make a case for the freedom of speech with his cartoons, even if the speech was derogatory, off color, offensive, or rude. As a result Muslims put a bounty on his head and some Muslims were out to kill him. Some Islamic nations were willing to pay $100,000 for his head.
Jihad Jane went over to Ireland and conspired with some people there. She stole other people’s identities to cover her tracks.
She got 10 years today. The 4 years she has already spent in prison were applied to the sentence. She was expecting a life sentence but instead the court was soft.
Now lets get back to our subject of why Israel will never see peace until the return of Messiah.
As I said yesterday, we will find the answer to this issue in the Bible. It comes down to what I call the Isaac/Ishmael family feud. These are the first two sons of Abraham. We have to look at the covenant that God made with the Patriarch Abraham.
You will remember from yesterday’s post that in Genesis 12:1-3 God made a covenant with Abraham, and this covenant involved the promise of land. In Genesis 15:18 we get the first of three Title Deeds. It gives all of the land between the Nile and River Euphrates to Abraham and his seed.
In Genesis 17:8 We have the second Title Deed. This deed tells us that the land includes all of Canaan. There has never been a question of where the land of Canaan is. Sometimes we call it the promised land, sometimes the land of Canaan, sometimes the land of the Philistines, and so on. There are many other groups of people who lived in this land and this is where Abraham was living at the time.
The question is which seed of Abraham gets the land because we have two sons, Isaac, and Ishmael, the first born son. In verses 18-21 we see clearly that it is Isaac, the father of the Jews. Look at the passage and you will see how clear this is.
Genesis 17:18-21 And Abraham said unto God, O that Ishmael might live before thee! And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him. And as for Ishmael, I have heard thee: Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly; twelve princes shall he beget, and I will make him a great nation. But my covenant will I establish with Isaac, which Sarah shall bear unto thee at this set time in the next year.
It is clear from this passage that the covenant was with Isaac, not Ishmael. This was God’s plan from the beginning. It was never God’s plan for Abraham to take Hagar, Sara’s handmaid, to wife and have a son. God’s promise from the beginning was that Abraham would have a son through Sara. Sara and Abraham doubted God because they were getting old and they didn’t think that God could keep His promise so, at the suggestion of Sara, Abraham took matters into his own hands. He took Hagar as a second wife. This brings up the issue of polygamy and the Scriptures. We will address this in a later article.
We are still suffering because Abraham did not have the faith to wait on God’s timing. We would not have the conflict with Islam had Abraham trusted God and not tried to help God.
The Arab nations come from the seed of Ishmael. When we follow the descendants of Ismael to the 500’s we see that Muhammad is of his seed.
The Muslim’s claim that the Jews have corrupted the Old Testament and the Christians have corrupted the New Testament. They claim that this is why God sent his angel, Gabriel, to Muhammad to give him the last revelation, the last chapter. In this they claim that God cleared up the supposed corruptions of the Jews and Christians.
The Islamic scriptures tell the story of Isaac and Ishmael in the exact opposite fashion. They favor Ishmael and not Isaac.
If you are a Muslim and believe the Qur’an and the teachings of Muhammad, you will believe that Isaac is the rejected son and Ishmael is the son of promise. You will believe that the covenant is passed on through Ismael, not Isaac. In fact, when Abraham is commanded to offer his son, guess who the Qur’an teaches that it is. It is Ismael, not Isaac. The Muslims will always favor Ismael over Isaac.
If Isaac is not the son of promise, then the Jews are the occupiers of Arab land. This is why the Muslims always refer to the Jews as the occupiers. They see the Jews as a foreign force, a foreign government, who has forced themselves upon the Arabs and the Arabs are the victims in the story.
If we follow the Bible we see that Isaac is the son of promise and that the covenant continues through his seed. This makes the Arabs the occupiers of the land and it makes the Jews the victims.
We have two different ways of looking at the situation in the Middle East. The Muslims look at it believing that the sons of Ishmael are the ones that are to receive the land of Canaan. The Jews and the Christians look at it from the point of view of the Bible, Old and New Testaments, and see Isaac and his seed as the rightful owners of the land. We see Isaac as the promised son through whom the covenant continues. Even though the Muslims claim that the Bible has been corrupted they offer no evidence of that being so.
If you were to go to Palestine and buy a map you will not find Jerusalem on it. They call it Al Quds, an offense to the Jews. For many years Muslims have been trying to rewrite history. It is amazing how ignorant many of us in America are concerning the history of the Middle East.
Before I end today let me give you my assessment of how we could have peace in the Middle East. First let me remind you of what I said earlier. There will never be peace in the Middle East while Islam exists. I don’t think it is possible to negotiate peace with the Muslims (Palestinians). It is not possible to negotiate peace and have the Palestinians agree to have Israel as a neighbor because both people are going to believe their books of scripture.
I can propose two ways to have peace in the region. The first is if Israel and the international community join together to drive back Islam and Muslims and hammer them into the ground and make them powerless and take away any hope, any strength, any ability to raise their finger against Jews. This might bring peace to the region. Historically force is the only thing that Muslims respect.
The only other way to have peace in the region is to win Muslims to Christ. There are former terrorists who have gotten saved, people who used to hate Jews, and now love the Jews Christians and support Israel. There are those like Walid Shoebat, Kamal Saleem, and Zakaria Anani, just to name a few.
It is possible, but not very probable, to, through one of these methods, to have peace in the Middle East.
In tomorrow’s post we will talk about what I call the Palestinian Myth. We will look at the British mandate at the time when the British Empire was at its peak and where Great Britain had control of the Middle East. We will see the mandate given to them by the League of Nations. We will see how the name Palestine became the name of that region.
Depending upon the point of view some will call it Palestine and some will call it Israel. Tomorrow I will answer the question of which name is correct.
