Islam and Slavery – Part 3

IslamicSlaverySex Slaves

Let me return for a moment to the report from the UN on Sexual Violence in Conflict. Some girls were able to escape from ISIS and one of the aid workers reported one girl was 9 years old and pregnant. She was sexually abused by at least 10 ISIS fighters. This is just one of the terrible things that are being done by these Islamic fighters.
A 19 year old told of some of the horrors she had heard. When ISIS came to her village the men were given the choice of converting to Islam or being shot. The girls and the young women were separated to be sold as sex slaves. They were then taken to a building in Mosel she described as a sex slave warehouse where hundreds of women and girls were held.
They would line up about 50 of them in lines of 10 and say, “don’t move, don’t cry, or we will beat you.” Men would come in and describe the kind of girl they wanted and pick and choose as they pleased.
She, and a few other girls managed to escape that night. A couple of them were recaptured and who knows what happened to them.
ISIS Magazine Justifies Slavery
Dabiq, a magazine published by ISIS, justifies slavery in its latest edition. This magazine is named after a city in Northern Syria where Muslims believe the army will be formed to attack Israel. The recurring theme of the magazine is that Syria and Iraq are not for Syrians and Iraqis, they are for Muslims to come and establish the Islamic State.
This magazine is published both on line and as a glossy, full color print magazine. Starting on page 44  of Dabiq, Issue 9, is an article entitled “Slave-Girls or Prostitutes?” by Umm Sumayyah Al-Muhajirah. The author of this article quotes from the Qur’an and the Sunnah to justify what is going on. She quotes from Surah 23:
And they who guard their private parts, except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they will not be blamed} [Al-Mu’minūn: 5-6]
The phrase “those their right hands possess” means their slaves. According to her, this verse says that it is righteous to protect your private parts from all except your wives and your slaves. It is OK for a man to have sex with his slave girl.
She also quotes from the Sunnah:
Sa’īd Ibn Jubayr reported that Ibn ‘Abbās (radiyallāhu ‘anhumā) said, “Approaching any married woman is fornication, except for a woman who has been enslaved” [Al-Hākim narrated it and said, “It is an authentic hadīth according to the criteria of al-Bukhārī and Muslim”]
An unbelieving woman’s marriage is invalidated when she becomes a captive and is enslaved. It is, therefore, not fornication to have sex with her.
She then quotes out of the Sirah:
The Sīrah is a witness to our Prophet’s (sallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) raiding of the kuffār. He would kill their men and enslave their children and women. The raids of the beloved Prophet (sallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) convey this to us. Ask the tribes of Banī al-Mustaliq, Banī Quraydhah, and Hawāzin about this.
The tribes spoken of here are the Jewish tribes betrayed by Muhammad. He beheaded the men and took the women and girls as sex slaves. This is called the Battle of the Trench. She said:
Banī Quraydhah yielded to the judgment of Sa’d Ibn Mu’ādh (radiyallāhu ‘anh). So Sa’d said, “I rule that their fighters be killed and their families be enslaved.” So Allah’s Messenger (sallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, “You have indeed judged in their affair by the ruling of Allah” [Reported by al-Bukhārī and Muslim]
Of another incident she said:
The number of Jews killed in the battles of Khaybar reached 93 men [Maghāzī al-Wāqidī]. Their women and children were enslaved, and Safiyyah Bint Huyayy Ibn Akhtab – the Mother of the Believers (radiyallāhu ‘anhā) – fell into captivity. Allah’s Messenger (sallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) set her free and married her [Reported by al-Bukhārī and Muslim].
And during the expedition of Hunayn, Allah’s Messenger (sallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) enslaved from Hawāzin until the amount of slaves reached six thousand [At-Tabaqāt al-Kubrā – Ibn Sa’d].
Her final piece of evidence is:
Therefore, we almost cannot find a companion who didn’t practice saby. ‘Alī Ibn Abī Tālib (radiyallāhu ‘anh) had nineteen slave-girls. Ibn ‘Uyaynah reported that ‘Amr Ibn Dīnār said, “’Alī Ibn Abī Tālib wrote in his will, ‘As to what follows: If something happens to me during this battle, then my slave-girls whom I copulate with are nineteen in number. Some of them bore me children, some of them are pregnant, and some of them are childless’” [Musannaf ‘Abdir-Razzāq].
In other words all of Muhammad’s companions practiced al-sabi. She repeats again and again evidence that shows this is the normal practice of Islam.
This magazine article proves that ISIS is doing exactly what the Prophet Muhammad did. Every good Muslim is going to want to follow Muhammad.
