Will You Stand For God?

hammer-311342_640We see a lot going on in our world today and we ask, Where are we heading. As I said yesterday, the bible doesn’t give much hope for the future of America in end-time prophecy.

As a child I couldn’t understand why America is not in Bible prophecy? Why isn’t the world’s leading nation, the nation with the most influence, power, and economic strength, found in the prophetic record? The only thing I could think of is that some other nation would take America down in a war. This never seemed likely, and it doesn’t seem likely today. I think the world still recognizes the military might of America. In light of this, what will happen to us?

I realize that what I have to say today will not be uplifting, but I believe we must examine the possibilities. Where are we going with all our sin? We have lost our moral compass because we have thrown God and the Bible out of public life. It seems like we are heading on a path of destruction.

Today I can imagine what will happen to America. I can see a number of things that could bring our downfall. I don’t think an enemy can take us down with military power from without, but I think we are vulnerable to destruction from within. When we look at history we see the fall of the great Roman Empire. She eventually fell from outside forces, but only after she was mortally wounded from within. She lost her moral ground and began to self-destruct. I think this is where we are headed.

Yesterday I talked about the danger of the liberals and how we could face a revolution. This concerns me greatly, and I certainly don’t welcome it. I don’t support such a thing, but we do have a king in this country called the Constitution. I am speaking in the natural sense and I understand that God is ultimately over all things.

The Constitution is supposed to rule in this nation, and there are those in government who wish to destroy it. They want to bring in a dictatorship and take away the freedom of the people. As I said yesterday, one of the things our founding fathers, who were God-fearing men and established a government based on biblical principles, put in the Constitution to protect the people from their government is the right to keep and bear arms and set up militias. A militia is an army of citizens. They wanted to government to fear the ability of the people to rise up against them if they should try to take away the rights and freedoms of the people.

It concerns me because it seems like that is where the United States is heading. I see the  possibility of a future revolution where the patriots of this country will fight back against its government. I hope that there will be level heads who will seek peaceful methods to fix these problems.

There is also a spiritual side to this. We must ask how God can bless a nation that has become so sinful and vile in its lewdness and rebellion? If God were to give us what we deserve He would bring destruction upon us. Listen to what the Bible has to say about this:

For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. (Galatians 6:8)

If we are going to sow lewdness and rebellion, that is exactly what we will reap. If we sow spiritual things we will reap life everlasting. God has blessed us greatly and we have thrown it away. There will be a recompense. We will answer to God for our sin and rebellion.

Let’s take a look at just one of our sins. In  Proverbs there are six things God hates and the seventy is an abomination to Him.

These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren. (Proverbs 6:16-19)

The third in this list is those who shed innocent blood. Is not killing the unborn shedding innocent blood? We can use clinical words like pregnancy termination, abortion, or whatever, but you are stopping the heartbeat of a human being. You can call the baby anything you want, it is still a human being, and it is still murder, it is still the shedding of innocent blood! God hates this and any nation that condones it will answer to God for it.

God has shown mercy when godly men have stood before Him and pleaded for mercy on wicked societies. I think of Abraham when he begged God to withhold judgment upon Sodom and Gomorrah. Abraham started asking God to stay His judgment if he could find 50 righteous men. He negotiated it down to 10, and God was willing to have mercy even if only 10 could be found.

We also see that a number of times God said he would destroy Israel and Moses interceded for them. God withheld His judgment because of Moses’ pleading. The point I want to make is that God is willing to withhold His well deserved judgment if there are just a few righteous leaders who will plead with God for mercy.

If any people knew the danger of turning from God, It was Israel. In spite of this knowledge they did it time and time again. God would first bring the prophets to warn of coming judgment and call them back to God. They usually would not listen to the preachers and would continue in their rebellion. God, in His mercy, would bring pain to the nation. Sometimes He would do this by raising up an enemy. When the pain reached a sufficient level, Israel would turn back to God. When they did return to Him, He would restore them to blessing.

Ezekiel tells how it was with Israel at times.

There is a conspiracy of her prophets in the midst thereof, like a roaring lion ravening the prey; they have devoured souls; they have taken the treasure and precious things; they have made her many widows in the midst thereof. Her priests have violated my law, and have profaned mine holy things: they have put no difference between the holy and profane, neither have they shewed difference between the unclean and the clean, and have hid their eyes from my sabbaths, and I am profaned among them. Her princes in the midst thereof are like wolves ravening the prey, to shed blood, and to destroy souls, to get dishonest gain. And her prophets have daubed them with untempered morter, seeing vanity, and divining lies unto them, saying, Thus saith the Lord GOD, when the LORD hath not spoken. The people of the land have used oppression, and exercised robbery, and have vexed the poor and needy: yea, they have oppressed the stranger wrongfully. And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none. Therefore have I poured out mine indignation upon them; I have consumed them with the fire of my wrath: their own way have I recompensed upon their heads, saith the Lord GOD. (Ezekiel 22:25-31)

God first looked to the prophets to find men who would stand for him and there were none. Next He looked to the priests and there were none. He looked to the rulers (princes) and there were none. He looked to the people and there were none. Finally He sought for just one man who would make up the hedge and stand in the gap before Him that He would not destroy it, but He found none.If there was ever a time that we needed men with truth and courage to stand in the gap, it is now.

I invite you to fall on your faces with me before God and cry out to God for His mercy upon this land. Pray that He would restore this land to blessing. I am afraid that we will have to suffer some pain first. Be ready, be prepared, but let’s let God do a work amongst us. Pray for revival in America.

This is the message that is burning in my heart today. Won’t you join us at the corner of Truth and Courage and stand up and be counted for God.
