Christian Apologetics toward Islam and Missions to Muslims

Happy Birthday America

Happy Birthday America!

fifeanddrumTwo hundred and forty years ago our founders signed the Declaration of Independence. When they signed it they knew they were signing their death warrants. One of them said:

If we don’t all hang together, we sill certainly all hang separately.

The King of England declared us to be rebels and criminals for going against the government. If you study what really happened it was the King who was breaking the laws.

The colonialists tried to rectify things with the King, but were not getting anywhere. The situation fell apart and we ended up with a revolution. I am thankful for the stand they took.

It is sad that so few people in America really know our history and heritage. The revisionists have been distorting the facts. They tell us we weren’t founded on Christian principles. The record is very clear. I am not going to take the time to lay out all of the evidence, it is out their if you want to study it out for yourselves.

Yesterday our pastor read the following quote in his sermon and I want you to see it because it leads to the thoughts I want to share with you. Karl Marx, dealing with the Russian revolution said:

A people without a heritage are easily persuaded.

Think about that for a moment. If people don’t know their roots, their heritage, they can be led about as sheep. This is exactly what the liberals, the progressives, want in our country. We have let them take over the education system and they are teaching revisionist history. They have completely removed God from our history. Our young people have very little knowledge of our history. When we watch the interviews with our young people, millennials, especially, it is appalling. When you ask them simple things like, name some of our founding fathers. Who is George Washington? What are we celebrating our independence from on the Forth of July? They have no clue what we are talking about. The ignorance of Americans concerning their heritage would be laughable if it were not so dangerous. They have been cut off from their heritage.

The Romans did the same thing. It was common practice for conquering nations to move the people out of their home country to get them away from their heritage. In the Bible the Hebrews were taken by the Chaldeans out of their culture and put in another culture. The hope was that they would intermarry and mix their cultures. This was done to cut them off from their roots.

This is what has been going on in America. Far to many Americans don’t know what the truth is concerning our heritage.

I think 1962 was the turning point in our nation’s history. This is when our First Amendment was really turned upside down. In 1962  the Supreme Court ruled on whether a state run school has the authority to enforce an official prayer as part of the state’s function. The lawyers were very clever in the way they fashioned the terminology. What had been the standard since the founding of our country was turned upside down.

The First Amendment says:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise there of.

It then goes into the freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of assembly, and the freedom to petition the government for redress of grievances.

The Supreme Court was somewhat forced to come out with the ruling it did. A state school doesn’t have the authority to make an official prayer and to force people to pray since the school is a function of the state. The government has no right to enforce or establish a religion. In the ruling it quoted portions of a letter that Thomas Jefferson had written to the Danbury Baptist Church.

There was a concern when the Constitution was being formed that there would be a state church. The Baptists wanted to make sure this didn’t happen. Thomas Jefferson wrote to assure them that a firm wall had been erected to separate church and state. The wall was to keep the state out of the affairs of the church.

The meaning is clear if you read the whole letter, but if you read it in the 1962 ruling it is taken out of its contexts and sounds quite different. The meaning in context says that the state has no business in the church, but when taken out of context it sounds like the church has no business in the state. Every since this ruling they have been kicking Christianity and church out of anything that has to do with government.

How well has this served the nation? How are our schools performing since they kicked God out? It is easy to see how quickly things have gone down hill since the 1962 ruling.

Americans don’t know our heritage, and they don’t understand what made America great in the first place. Because of this they are easily led astray.

When this false separation of church and state was happening, what was the response of Christians? Although there was some anger, there wasn’t much done about it. Christians became apathetic. Today it has reached a point where we can’t climb the mountain. Since it seems we can’t do anything, we continue in our apathy.

It just keeps getting worse. Just last week the military said that it is making preparations to allow transsexuals in to our armed forces. They are even willing to pay tor the sex change operations.

Let me close with this. Don’t despair. It does seem like an impossible task, but I want to remind you that when our nation was being born it was an impossible task. They were taking on, if not the most  powerful military in the world, certainly one of the top two or three. There is no doubt that England had the most powerful navy in the world.

In spite of the seemingly impossible task, the patriots of America took up arms against their oppressors. God gave us the victory. It was an amazing accomplishment when this nation, that didn’t even have an army, fought against one of the most powerful armies in the world.

Don’t think for a moment that we cannot overcome our challenges. The biggest hurdle we have to get over is that we see how terrible things are and think we can do nothing. The nation has fallen into desperate sin. Our government has become lawless. We are supposed to be a nation of law, and we have people in the highest positions of government who live outside the law. We see corruption at every turn. We think that bringing our nation back to what it once was is impossible.

I hear people say they believe God can bring revival and that He can bring this nation back, but the question is, Will He? I want to remind you of a verse in the Bible.:

The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will. (Proverbs 21:1)

God has power over everything in this world, including the kings. Remember when Christ was in the boat with fishermen who had built their careers on the water and in the boats. They were fearing for their lives in the storm. Where was Jesus? He was asleep on a pillow. They woke Him up and He said “peace be still, oh ye of little faith.”

Let’s not be people of little faith. God can overcome. In His strength we can overcome even in the troubles that we are facing today.

Happy Birthday America, may you see many more. It can happen with God.
