Welcome to election day 2016. We are expected to go to the ballot box and cast our votes. Many of us have already done so through early voting where it is allowed. We will be watching into the wee hours of the morning to see who the winner will be.
If you are like me, you are election weary, and tired of all this. It is everywhere we turn. It seems like two years now. I really enjoyed the break from all this while I was in Israel and away from the news to some extent. I am never really away from the news, I am a news junkie. I am always searching my news feeds on my phone, but it was good to get away from some of it.
We are now at a point where we need to get the vote out. Having the right to vote is a tremendous privilege, and an opportunity to choose our leaders. Aren’t you glad we have this option. What is sad about it is that some people don’t participate. I think this is a great shame.
For those of you who think your vote won’t count, you are misguided. If you don’t cast a vote at all, you make it easier for the other side to win. Let’s say that neither candidate is your real choice, but you don’t want Hillary to win. I can’t understand how any Christian could support her platform. It supports the killing of the unborn. It supports the homosexual lifestyle, which is and abomination to God. It supports rebellion against God on just about every point. We have an opportunity to cast a vote for someone who is going to oppose that.
As Christians, we have an opportunity to stop the slide of our country into more and more evil. I like what my father-in-law says. We are to seek the Kingdom of God and His righteousness. We are not seeking the righteousness of our candidate, we are seeking the righteousness of God. We will never have candidates are righteous enough. We want His Kingdom so we should support the candidate whose platform is closest to the precepts of God’s Kingdom. It is really that simple.
Sadly, America has come to such a state that the candidates chosen by the people are lacking godly character and integrity. They are, however, the choices we have.
As I said, some of you will say that your vote won’t count. If people persist in that attitude, it won’t matter. If you don’t vote, the opposition only has to cast one vote to move their agenda forward. If you do vote for a more godly platform, then those what want a more ungodly platform have to cast two votes to advance their agenda. You actually put a roadblock in the way of the opposition. Your vote does matter.
If we look at the last election Obama won with 65.9 million votes. Romney received 60.9 million votes. The difference was 5 million votes. It is sad that 25 million evangelicals, who were registered to vote, and who usually do vote, chose to stay home because Romney was a Mormon. We only have ourselves, as Christians, to blame for the condition of our nation.
Not voting is only part of the problem. Another reason our country is in trouble is that we, as Christians, have refused to be the salt and light God has called us to be. As I said, we are to seek His Kingdom and His righteousness. This means we are to stand up for the righteousness of God. When we see evil, lewdness, corruption, and abomination, we are to stand up and say, publicly, that these things are wrong, sinful, and wicked. We are to stand up on God’s side.
When we fail to stand up, the salt loses it savor and is good for nothing. We can be sure that God will cast us aside, and this country. that once was a great, god-fearing nation, will become something to read about in the history books like Rome.
Our problem is that we failed to speak up. We were silent when they kicked prayer out of the schools. We did get upset, but instead of fighting against it, we started our own schools. We should have fought for the state schools that our taxes pay for.
Don’t think I am against Christian education, I am a product of it. My point is that we have made a big mistake because today most American young people are being brainwashed by our corrupt public education system. Why do you think the left is against allowing us to choose where we go to school.
When they kicked God out of government, we accepted it. We didn’t dig our heels in and stand up and fight to keep our nation a nation under God. We let the courts turn the First Amendment on its ear. We do make a lot of noise, but we don’t do anything about it.
We did the same thing when they legalized abortion.
It is the saints of God, the Christians, who have allowed these things to happen. It is not going to stop if we don’t stand up and fight. They have now legalized gay marriage, and who knows what is next. I believe we will see the legalization of polygamy, and there will be public attempts to legalize pedophilia. There is already talk about it in the back rooms.
We, as Christians, have failed in our jobs. I am here to tell you that we only have ourselves to blame for what we see happening in America.
Listen to the following quote from someone in 2010:
The Death Of Common Sense
Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.
He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:
– Knowing when to come in out of the rain;
– Why the early bird gets the worm;
– Life isn’t always fair; and
– Maybe it was my fault..
Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don’t spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge). His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.
Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.
It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.
Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.
Common Sense took a beating when you couldn’t defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.
Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.
Common Sense was preceded in death, by his parents, Truth and Trust, by his wife, Discretion, by his daughter, Responsibility, and by his son, Reason.
He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers:
I Know My Rights
I Want It Now
Someone Else Is To Blame
I’m A Victim
Not many attended his funeral because
so few realized he was gone..
What a sad commentary, well written, but sad. It tells us how much trouble we are in. Let me give you some hope.
The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will. (Proverbs 21:1)
God can, even though we may have wicked leaders, turn their hearts. Also remember the three Hebrew children who refused to bow to the king’s idol, they stood firm on the precepts of God.
Then Nebuchadnezzar spake, and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who hath sent his angel, and delivered his servants that trusted in him, and have changed the king’s word, and yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God. (Daniel 3:28)
Our God can change the king’s word if we, as God’s children, will stand up for His righteousness no matter what the cost. We have a chance to do that today. If you haven’t already voted, get out and vote for the platform that is the closest to God’s precepts. We need to vote in a manner that gives God the glory. We are not voting for a candidate’s righteousness, we are voting to uphold God’s righteousness.
Whether Trump wins, or Hillary wins, we will have to follow where God is leading us. Let’s trust God and take a stand for what is right regardless of the cost.
